John Virtue creates monochramatic lanscape paintings and is well known for his 'London Paintings' series. The influencial aspects of his style are the different tools and methods he
uses to create his paintings, such as using a combination of brushes, rollers and spray guns to apply ink and acrylic paint that create 'dripping' and 'smoggy' effects, as well as using a wide selection of tools such as basting syringes, caligraphy pens and even his fingers and toes to paint with. John Virtues wide range of techniques influence my work because of all the different effects you can create just by using a different tool to apply materials, not just using one brush in various sweeping or dabbing movements. I also like the way that Virtue builda up his layers to add to the effects of his paintings; making them more detailed and expressive.
