Because my own work is focused on processes, and the way in which how I apply the material to the canvas effects the outcome of the painting; I am inspired by Gerhard Richter's work because he solely concentrated on the process of applying paint to the surface. The thick layers of oil paint that make up his work show a range of textures. The presence of colour was the main material of his paintings, and his style enabled him to freely investigate the basic principles of painting, which is something I am also interested in exploring within my own work.
