Sarah Symes + Jo Deeley

Sarah Symes' work is based on reinterpreting memories of the eclectic cities she has lived in, as well as the people she has met there. She does not use traditional embroidery techniques and her work also relates to collage and painting because of the way she works by layering up colours and textures.

Jo Deeley uses a variety of textures and techniques to create abstract, structural designs. The complex mixture of weaving, knotting, knitting and plaiting add a depth that makes her work visually engaging. "She is also an advocate of being driven by the particular technique she is using at any one time; her chosen process can dictate the direction in which a piece goes as it is being made."

I have chosen to look at these two textile artists because my work includes the use of exploring with embroidery, or the materials that are associated with. I also work with the same sense that the material or tool I am working with can alter the direction and plan for a piece of work midway through the production of the piece.
