Statement of Intent
Previously I had focused my work on the actual processes of creating art and the different outcomes you could get regarding textures and layers.
For this project I wish to develop the use of colour by expanding my palette because normally I would heavily control what colours I would use, and where they would be placed on the composition; so I am aiming to be a bit more free and experiment with this more.
As part of the development of my idea for the personal project I have decided to experiment with adding a subject to my work, but I will be sticking to the theme of nature and figures rather than still life for example.
When working, my comfort zone tends to lie within smaller scale pieces so I am intending to to go bigger with this project in hope of being able to further the development of this project even more so.
I am also intending to incorporate digital aspects to my work through photo manipulation on Photoshop and GIMP Photo Editor. If this works well with my idea then I would also like to use a projector to aid with some of the planned larger scale pieces. And I will also need to develop my printmaking skills whilst having plans to use mixed media in my work.
I will be carrying on the use of mixed media with this project as well as looking more in depth at the collage aspects of this.
To support my project I a going to be researching abstract expressionist artists and look into different painting styles and techniques so that I can develop my own technique further.
I am also planning on visiting some galleries and exhibitions around the North East, the South West and potentially Liverpool too. This is so that I can hopefully find a wider range of artists that I may not have been able to come across just by looking online. I will also be looking at some books and product catalogues in the University Library for more information into Abstract and Expressionist art.
