Exhibition - Strangeways to Art
one of the students on my course, Andrew Parkin, arranged and held his own Exhibition in the Shaun Project Space. the exhibition started today and lasts 5 days overall. straight from the start you could see that this was not like any normal show or exhibition you would visit as it was busy and loud and full of people interacting together. we were greeted by one of Andrews daughters who was dressed up in a striped prison jumpsuit and was offering out refreshments and snacks such as porridge and home brewed moonshine. this all linked to his theme of prison and criminals that was heavily influenced by celebrity inmate Charlie Bronson.
Andrew's work is also influenced by boxers because of being an ex-boxer himself and well known figures such as the Kray twins, Mohammed Ali and The Guv’nor Lenny McClean. inside the Shaun space we got to explore a wide range of art work that ranges from sculpture to painting and even a video piece projected onto the wall.
