I came across artist Steven Spazuk whilst looking for artwork based on wildlife, specifically birds. I am mostly interested in the technique he uses to create his art work which is called Fumage. Fumage is a process that allows him to use the flame from a torch or candle instead of a pencil or pen by using trails of soot from the open flame against the paper. Then he uses an arrangement of tools including paint brushes and feathers to add detail by sculpting the soot that was created by blackening the canvas.

His pieces can be created quite quickly because of the flame burning the initial shapes/outlines onto the canvas first. I am interested in this because i like to create/draw quick sketches of birds and then add detail through watercolour or blending and manipulating the inks with a wet brush.
